Mechanical design and manufacturing
All our astronomical instruments design was carried out by a professional team of aerospace engineers. Mechanical design was performed in a 3D environment and FEM analysis have driven the sizing of all the components.
Our team started 8 years ago, analyzing in depth the structural behavior of standard solutions, being able to understand in detail the weaknesses of these systems. These tests with FEM analysis have allowed us to implement much more performing solutions both in terms of stiffness, lightness and thermal stability.
Standard truss structure FEM analysis
Standard truss structure using aluminum plates show evident flexural deformations due to the thrust and pull actions generated by the trusses.
Moderate deformation is also found in the rear flange due to the forces generated by the weight of the primary mirror.
These considerations combined with other important aspects have led us to use solutions based on an extensive use of carbon fiber as a sandwich structure combined with the use of aluminum inserts where the forces are discharged onto the carbon structures.
For all our mechanical parts, we use the finest material alloys as aluminium 6082-T6, 7075-T6 and Grade 5 Ti6Al4V Titalium Alloy, and for manufacture the state of the art of the CNC machining centers and lathes for best quality.
